The reigning Omukama (King) of Tooro Kingdom, Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi the 4th celebrated 26 years on the throne.
The main celebration which this year round, because of the outbreak of Covid-19, wasn’t attended by huge crowds as always was held at the kingdom’s headquarters in Karuziika, Fort Portal City on 12th September 2021 and was attended by invited guests and government officials.
His mother Best Kemigisha congratulated him for being in charge of the kingdom from 12th September 1995.
“I congratulate his Majesty King OYO on the occasion of your 26th coronation anniversary. May God grant you wisdom, good health and prosperity for the people and the kingdom of Tooro,” she said in a Facebook post.
The King used this event to launch the Kingdom’s development plan for the next 25 years.
According to the plan, the Kingdom will focus on six pillars which include, promoting and protecting the culture, skills development for youth, investing in agriculture, promoting tourism, environment and water conservation, Health for All and ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.
King Oyo said that the development plan will transform the Kingdom for the next 25 years with the overall goal of empowering people and communities of Tooro.
He added that the plan will also enable the Kingdom to contribute towards the attainment of the National Development Plans and Uganda’s Vision 2040.
King Oyo also said that in a bid to address the unemployment among the youth, the Kingdom has established the Tooro Kingdom Youth Business Centre in Fort Portal.
He added that the center will offer hands-on skills training, and apprenticeships to empower youth to increase their productivity and improve their livelihoods.
