Spent some time feelin’ inferior
standing in front of my mirror
Combed my hair in a thousand ways
but I came out looking just the same
Daddy said, “Son, you better see the world
I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to leave
But remember one thing don’t lose your head
to a woman that’ll spend your bread”
So I got out
Paris was a place you could hide away
if you felt you didn’t fit in
French police wouldn’t give me no peace
They claimed I was a nasty person
Down along the Left Bank minding my own
Was knocked down by a human stampede
Got arrested for inciting a peacful riot
when all I wanted was a cup of tea
I was accused
I moved on
Down in Rome I wasn’t getting enough
of the things that keeps a young man alive
My body stunk but I kept my funk
at a time when I was right out of luck
Getting desperate indeed I was
Looking like a tourist attraction
Oh my dear I better get out of here
‘for the Vatican don’t give no sanction
I wasn’t ready for that, no no
I moved right out east yeah!
On the Peking ferry I was feeling merry
sailing on my way back here
I fell in love with a slit eyed lady
by the light of an eastern moon
Shangai Lil never used the pill
She claimed that it just ain’t natural
She took me up on deck and bit my neck
Oh people I was glad I found her
Oh yeah I was glad I found her
I firmly believe that I didn’t need anyone but me
I sincerely thought I was so complete
Look how wrong you can be
The women I’ve known I wouldn’t let tie my shoe
They wouldn’t give you the time of day
But the slit eyed lady knocked me off my feet
God I was glad I found her
And if they had the words I could tell to you
to help you on the way down the road
I couldn’t quote you no Dickens, Shelley or Keats
’cause it’s all been said before
Make the best out of the bad just laugh it off
You didn’t have to come here anyway
So remember, every picture tells a story don’t it
Kodak Black isn’t happy with his new collaboration with fellow Florida native YNW Melly.
Today is new music Friday, and fans are anxiously awaiting the release of tracks from some of their favorite artists. This Friday might just be a lot bigger than previous ones in terms of the list of heavyweights set to burn up the airwaves. We have Drake and Tory Lanez dropping albums, and we also will be receiving music from Tyler the Creator and Lil Baby. Typically, the critics of music are the fans themselves, but today there was a twist when Kodak Black shared his displeasure about his new track titled “Thugged Out” with YNW Melly.
Word of their collab has been hitting the grapevine for some time now, but sadly fans hadn’t gotten their desires satiated due to both rappers dealing with a slew of legal dilemmas. YNW Melly is currently in custody at Broward County Jail in Florida, awaiting his double-murder trial. He was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. According to police reports, he and another rapper, YNW Bortlen, killed two of their friends then staged the crime scene to look like a drive-by shooting. Back in April 2020, the 21-year-old rapper was denied release from prison after he contracted Covid-19.
Kodak Black, on the other hand, had a little bit of luck. His sentence has been commuted, and he was released from jail recently following a pardon by former President Donald Trump. Miraculously it seems the pair have found some way to make the magic happen, and their new track was released today, much to the displeasure of Kodak, who noted that the mixing of the track was of poor quality.
In a now-deleted tweet, he expressed, “Dam They Got Me Off Beat Af On This Melly Song SMH We Gone Have To Revisit This One Later.”
YNW Melly responded to Kodak’s revelations stating, “We getting dat bih rite it’s melvin n yak stop playing with our top [engineer].”
One fan seemed unphased by the matter at hand and instead directed his focus to Melly responding while in prison. “He got a phone in prison? I’m telling,” he exclaimed.
Since we kicked off 2021, this might be the biggest’ New Music Friday’ of the year thus far, and it’s not just because Drake announced a new project. The Toronto rapper’s highly anticipated sixth album is still at the forefront of people’s minds, but while he perfects that with the right finishes, he is offering up a trio of songs for fans to mull over in the meantime. Drake announced that his mini-EP Scary Hours would arrive at midnight on Friday, which means chances are you’ve already heard it. The title includes three tracks – two of which features Lil Baby and Rick Ross.
The star-studded list of new arrivals goes on to include the likes of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, who joined forces on an upcoming album that they say will have that 70s sound. Ahead of the drop, the duo, who together are known as Silk Sonic, released their lead single entitled “Leave The Door Open.”
This week we’re also gifted with new tracks from the likes of Tyler The Creator, Juice WRLD and Post Malone, Young Dolph and Key Glock, Saweetie, Doja Cat and Stefflon Don, G Herbo, and more.
Drake – “Scary Hours”
Drake’s Scary Hours comes after the rapper was spotted shooting a music video in his home base, Toronto. Fans suspected that the visuals would be for a track from Certified Lover Boy, which they have been waiting for almost a year for. However, Drizzy took to Instagram to announce the new short EP ahead of its release at midnight. While Scary Hours will not qualify for a spot on the Billboard 200 chart, it is expected to perform just as well as it would if it did make that debut.
Silk Sonic – “Leave The Door Open”
Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak announced a new joint album, and it is already looking like the collaboration we never knew we needed. Today they dropped off the lead single for the project “Leave The Door Open,” which is indicative of an absolutely outstanding album afoot. Just as their name Silk Sonic implies, the singer and rapper combine to give fans a silky smooth array of bars and melodies.
Clever ft Juice Wrld & Post Malone – “Life’s A Mess”
Juice WRLD and Post Malone together on one song is most likely just as you’d imagine it. These souls were meant to be spilled out on the same track at least once, and thanks to rapper Clever and Juice’s everlasting catalog of unreleased recordings, the dream was made a reality with “Life’s A Mess.” After gelling his sound so extraordinarily well with that of the departed rapper, Posty only leaves fans wanting more with this track.
Saweetie ft Doja Cat & Stefflon Don – “Best Friends (Remix)”
Saweetie enlisted UK-based rapper Stefllon Don to assist the remix for “Best Friend,” a single she released with Billboard-topping artist Doja Cat in January. The official music video for the original track has already garnered over 82 million views and 1 million likes. The addition of Stefflon Don to the record should only serve to spice it up even more and help it to surge further up the charts. Stefflon has a very West Indian style which could be exactly what a remix like this needs.
Tyler, The Creator – “Tell Me How”
Tyler The Creator has been on a collaboration binge lately, but this week he released a solo effort titled “Tell Me How.” As usual, the Grammy Award-winning rapper is always improving, and so he did not come to disappoint. The excitement of his first solo joint in a minute and his thought-provoking lyrics only set the stage for a simply brilliant album to come.
Young Dolph & Key Glock – “Aspen”
Young Dolph and Key Glock also dropped off their new single “Aspen” today. These two seem to make a good team as together they’ve already released successful singles “Case Closed” and “Green Light” this year. Their latest effort is of a similar nature to their previous as they discuss their street-savvy ways on the track.
Taleban Dooda ft 42 Dugg – “Trappin Ain’t Dead”
Taleban Dooda features 42 Dugg on his latest track, “Trappin Ain’t Dead.” On this newly released Helluva-produced track, Dooda dabbles in a new style that he carries quite well, much to the delight of fans. 42 Dugg brings his signature Detroit sound to the track complementing Dooda’s sound in an effortless way.
G Herbo – “Break Yoself & Really Like That”
G Herbo released not one but two new singles this week, “Break Yoself” and “Really Like That.” These mark the first singles released by the Chi-Town rapper this year following his track “Statement,” which was released in December amid charges being brought against him for $1.5 million of federal fraud. The rapper reportedly used stolen credit cards to cover private jets and other expenses.
Chance The Rapper also released a new music video for his song “The Heart & The Tongue” at midnight, and be on the lookout for new releases from Sonny Digital, who drops off his song “Dance” today and pgLang’s Baby Keem who debuts his track “No Sense.”
Drake has fans pining for his and Kanye West reconciliation after he mentions the controversial rapper on his latest release.
Drake SZN is upon us, and social media is buzzing about the little nuggets the rapper left in his mini EP Scary Hours 2. The three-pack ordeal is a precursor to the rapper’s impending album Certified Lover Boy and consists of a solo track “What’s Next” and two collaborations, with the more popular one being “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” with Rick Ross.
However, it’s the Kanye West reference in the Lil Baby-assisted “Wants and Needs” that has fans buzzing. In the track, Drake makes mention of his rival Kanye West in a positive way that has restored any hope of them reuniting – at least for fans.
Drake seems about ready to end his longtime feud with Ye that reached its pinnacle in 2018 when Pusha T exposed the rapper for being a dad – something that Drizzy believes the current G.O.O.D. Music president could have only learned directly from Kanye West. In his new track, “Wants and Needs,” the Toronto rapper expresses a desire to get closer to God.
Since Kanye has become the resident minister in the hip-hop community, it was only fitting that Drizzy calls on him for the cause. Drake raps:
“Yeah, I probably should go link with Yeezy, I need me some Jesus / But soon as I started confessing my sins, he wouldn’t believe us”
Kanye has been on a born-again journey since he gave his life to the Lord, and his Sunday Service movement has depicted just that. Even last year, when he ran for U.S. President, his campaign was primarily based on his religious ideals. Fans are excited about the possibility of faith rekindling Ye and Drizzy, who has seemed for the longest time to care zero about making amends.
Drake also raps about confessing his sins but thinks that they’re so bad that they’re unbelievable.
Is Drake rapping about Kim Kardashian on “Wants and Needs?”
Of course, there is the old Kim Kardashian factor. Kanye West is of the belief that Drizzy and Kim had an affair, and some fans are now drawing references to Drizzy’s lines about Ye on the track. The 6 God has a reputation for leaving mystery subs on his songs aimed at his nemesis, so there is a good chance Kim might be a factor here. Or perhaps he just wanted to ruffle up some feathers regarding Kanye, who is in the middle of a divorce from Kim.
Over on Twitter, one fan says they were anticipating that Drake, who is currently trending, would have called out Kanye West in some way or form on this new project. “I knew Drake would mention Kanye on his new songs, but I’m glad it was in a positive way this time. Would love them to squash the beef.”
Most of Twitterverse is in agreement that it’s about time Drake and Kanye put their differences behind them. They have certainly taken enough shots at each other over the years. What say you?
Veteran Jamaican reggae singer George Nooks is encouraging all artists facing legal issues before the courts to “ride out the storm.” The entertainer made the comments following his own court case that came up for mention on Thursday, March 4.
George Nooks is currently before the courts after he was charged with possession of cocaine and perverting the course of justice. He was charged in October 2020 following an incident that took place in April 2019. Urban Islandz previously reported that police conducting a narcotics operation approached the “God Is Standing By” crooner while he was on a plaza in the corporate area. On the approach of the police officers, it’s alleged he threw a bag containing a “white powdery” substance to the ground.
He was subsequently taken into custody, and reports further indicate that while he was being processed, he got possession of the bag and consumed the contents. He was subsequently charged by the Director of Public Prosecutions stemming from that incident. When he appeared in court on Thursday, he expressed optimism about his case, telling reporters, “I’m feeling great and looking forward to this being over.” The case was postponed for mention until July 27.
George Nooks has had previous run-ins with the law prior to his latest case. In May 2019, he was found not guilty of breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act stemming from another similar incident.
For this occasion, Nooks expressed, “Me nah watch dem, because all the time, God is good, and God is good all the time, (so) no trial is too difficult.”
Quada, another entertainer who was also due to have his case mentioned on Thursday, had his case put off until another date as well. He is facing charges of arson and murder. On hearing of his fellow entertainer’s plight, George Nooks commented, “a just so dem ting set.”
Meanwhile, as the artist is preparing to release his latest 14 track album later this year, he told reporters that the title had been changed a few times. He further added that when he finds an appropriate one that he seems suitable, he will make an official announcement for the release.
In closing, the entertainer had this motivational message to impart to fellow entertainers in similar compromising positions, “The artiste should ride out the storm … all the entertainers in these situations should not give up hope; all my brothers and sisters, ride out your storms,” he said.
We will keep you updated on any further developments in his case.
Sean Paul released his new track “Boom” with Busy Signal.
As he rolls out his first album of the year Live N Living, Sean Paul is releasing singles from the project to get the buzz going. His latest release, “Boom,” which features Busy Signal, has fans wondering how the two artists have not collaborated on a dance track like this before. The duo mesh extremely well together with complementing sounds, and on this track, they delivered a high-energy performance that is a surefire way to get fans moving and set the stage for a great new album.
“Gyal come gimme di ting deh don’t play / None a dem cyaan test yuh body no day / And yuh can ask anybody gyal / You got the body everybody want yeah (oh yeah),” Sean Paul kicks off the first verse.
“Mek the booty work twerk fi the income / Cah yuh body heavy like Jada Kingdom / Go ahead baby with your wisdom / Loving the style you bring come,” Busy Signal deejays.
The intrigue also lies in the fact that we haven’t received a track like this from Busy Signal in a while. The dancehall star has only collaborated with Sean Paul once in the past, over a decade ago when they joined Busta Rhymes for the remix “Gun Dem Bark.”
Their latest collaboration is a definite banger which proves Sean Paul’s recent proclamation that it’s “collaboration over confrontation.” As dancehall has become quite divisive, SP stands to defy that with an onslaught of epic collaborations this year.
“Boom” is one of the upcoming tracks on Sean Paul’s new album Live N Living which is slated to arrive on March 12.
In a recent statement about the upcoming project, Sean Paul explained, “It was important to me to show that in our genre of dancehall, we don’t need to clash in order to attain the spotlight,” he said. “We don’t need to divide our fans to attain the rotations on the airwaves or streams.”
“Boom” debuted on Busy Signal’s official YouTube page on Thursday (March 4). Check out the fire new track.
Timeless Jamaican singer, Sanchez, has a notion that there is a shortage of reggae singers emerging from Jamaica. He sincerely believes that there will not be enough singers to carry on the legacy of reggae music. Many who oppose his thesis would declare that just like technology, the music has to evolve, or it will die out completely.
Sanchez is popular for his hit songs “Lonely Won’t Leave Me Alone,” “Brown Eye Girl,” and “Never Dis Di Man,” whose lyrics easily roll off the tongue due to his incredible renditions.
With these under his belt, one could point out that his statement has some truth in it, and he would be experienced enough to say so. However, if traditions surrounding music were stringent, we would still be making Ska and Mento music today.
During a recent interview with the Observer, Sanchez took the time to express his thoughts. “Most of the great singers have passed away. It’s only a handful of us left in the business right now. After we are gone who’s going to be here to keep reggae music alive?” he boldly questioned.
He added, “There needs to be another generation of great singers on the rise and I don’t see that happening right now.”
According to the Russian playwright Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, “Nothing in Art is new, except for talent,” and the same goes for music. If you deeply analyze the history of music, you will notice that over time, rhythm, beats, and melodies have been recycled to create the next sound for the new generation. Young upcoming reggae artists like Minori, Jamila Falak, Black H3RO, and Annah Mariah, just to name a few, are on the verge of making the next big hit, and it is without a doubt that they revisited the music of the greats to motivate and inspire them. They can be highlighted as proof of the new generation practicing the craft in the shadows of their forefathers as they explore their talent, and many of Sanchez’s fans were quick to inform him of this.
Sanchez is currently doing the media rounds to promote his new single “Called Me,” produced by Freddie Kruger and released on Kruger Di Reggae Riddim compilation album. The compilation also features songs from several other artists, including Mykal Rose, Wayne Wade, and Hugh Brown.
Pop Smoke has three new songs on the soundtrack for the new movie “Boogie.”
Pop Smoke will make his posthumous debut on the big screen this Friday as basketball player “Monk” in the movie “Boogie.” The New York rapper who snatched a huge role in the film prior to his untimely demise is not only the film’s lead antagonist, but he also appears on the Boogie: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack not one but three times.
The lead single, “AP,” was already released this month and is a solo effort by Pop Smoke. The rapper also makes appearances on the tracks “Fashion” featuring Polo G and a remix for “No Cap” with UK rapper M24. The basketball-themed movie was directed by Eddie Huang, who told Yahoo Entertainment that he was particularly impressed with Pop Smoke’s work ethic on set. As the lead actor’s main rival in the story, Pop Smoke had a huge role to play and is instrumental to the success of the film.
“He [had] no fear, Pop [wasn’t] scared of anything,” said Huang. “He also probably had the fastest computer processor in his head I’ve ever seen. I could tell Pop something, and he would immediately adapt and make that change. And he didn’t have an ego about it, and he wouldn’t get scared about it. And he wouldn’t have self-doubt about it. He just did it.”
Huang added that the movie was originally meant to inspire other Chinese like himself living in America, but now he came to the conclusion that this is Pop Smoke’s film. “It’s absolutely dedicated to Pop,” he continues. “I really miss my brother.”
Pop Smoke found a lot of posthumous success amidst his untimely death more than a year ago in February 2020. Pop released one of the most successful albums of the year despite the setbacks spurred on by the global pandemic, and even today, Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon remains in the coveted No. 1 spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for its 17th week – a record time for any album released within the last 3-4 decades.
As the departed rapper’s estate revealed, they’ll continue to roll out his artistic portfolio posthumously, and his role in the Eddie Huang-directed film is the latest of his undertakings to emerge. “Boogie” premieres in theaters today, Friday (March 5).

Cruel Santino and Koffee got a collaboration on the way.
There has been much buzz around Jamaica’s youngest Grammy Award-winning artiste Koffee after she stripped down for a sultry Calvin Klein shoot. It turns out that there is much more coming our way from the 21-year-old, this time as it relates to music. The “Rapture” singer and Nigerian rapper Cruel Santino were definitely cooking up in the studio, and by all indications, their impending release will be worth the wait. The brand new track was previewed by Santino during an Instagram LIVE session just a day ago.
The African-based entertainer showcased just why he is thought of as one of the continent’s most inspiring and unique young entertainers, as he blended his Nigerian dialect with that of Jamaica’s patios. Koffee’s unmistakable vocals came through just beyond the end of Santino’s first verse and carried through until the Nigerian stopped the beat dead in its track, leaving his viewers craving more.
This is not the first time that Koffee has been linked with a Nigerian entertainer. Just last year, the singer was seen working it out with African Giant Burner Boy. There hasn’t been any word on that release just yet, but many feel it could be featured on Koffee’s forthcoming album.
There is still no word on the name of Santino’s recently previewed track.
Much like Koffee, Santino emerged on the music scene only a few years ago. His debut album “Mandy & The Jungle” boasted songs such as “Sparky” and “Freaky” that resonated heavily with groups interested in a mixture of indie, alternative, hip hop, and dancehall sound. The Interscope Records talent recently formulated his label known as Monster Boy and is poised to make a big musical impact.
Santino’s talent can also be seen behind the lens, which gives him full creative control over his visuals. It is unclear if his Koffee collab is already being fitted with a music video. However, it would be pretty interesting if that came to pass. Ghanaian entertainer Stonebwoy recently visited Jamaica and expressed just how fun it was to journey to the island to shoot a video for a track he had done with Jahmiel.
The small island territory that has birthed one of the world’s greatest music genres has seen a reconnection of sorts with fellow entertainers from the motherland. Other African stars such as Davido and Wizkid have all tapped into the unique put fruitful relationship. By the sounds of it, Santino has become of the latest to do so, and fans can’t wait to hear the complete song.
Signs are clear,
The end is near.
So lay aside
Your burdens and cares.
Cause where we’re going
Can’t take them there.
Won’t make this journey
If you’re not prepared.
Trodding through earth’s wilderness.
Though we’re weary no time to rest.
On our way to the promise land.
Dancing and singing redemption songs.
Chorus We are leaving Babylon
Into the city made without hands
Beyond its wall a river flows
To refresh our weary souls.
We are leaving Babylon yea
Hey Night has pass
The days at hand
When the Sheppard
Will gather his lambs.
Awake, no longer slumber
Join the multitude without number.
Hurry hurry
There’s no time to waste
From the heathens be separate
Avoid negative news and views
Don’t let them discourage you
Chorus
We are leaving Babylon
Into the city made without hands
Beyond its wall a river flows
To refresh our weary souls.
We are leaving Babylon yea
Now we know it won’t be long
Heed the warning
Fleet the wrath to come.
Two roads from which to choose
The choice is yours win or loose
Escape for life face the frowning judge.
Before the days of the burning sun.
Maintain your faith to jah be true.
For only he can deliver you.
Chorus x 2
We are leaving Babylon
Into the city made without hands
Beyond its wall a river flows
To refresh our weary souls.
We are leaving Babylon yea
Tory Lanez went on a rant against DSPs for allegedly suppressing his music and gets a cosign from Timbaland.
Tory Lanez is criticizing Digital Streaming Services, which he says has been making a concerted effort to not display his latest album, Playboy. Lanez has been caught in controversy since the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion, and he even claimed that his music was being boycotted as his streaming activity dipped since the incident.
Now, the Toronto rapper says his music is being censored and silenced by streaming services. In a video he released on Instagram, Lanez says that Playboy has been streaming No.1 on Apple and Itunes Music, but in spite of this, it isn’t displayed on the homepage of the streaming services.
He said, “I’m not tryna to single out any platforms…..at all..I JUST ASK THAT AT THIS POINT…I get treated FAIRLY…as an independent artist….and as a BLACK BUSINESS.. I ACTIVELY still make platforms money with my music so it should NOT BE RIGHT.. for any platform to CENSOR AND SILENCE ME FROM THE EDITORIAL PLAYLIST OR HOME PAGES OF THESE PLATFORMS THAT HELP TO GIVE EYEBALLS TO YOUNG ARTIST…”
In his video, he said his album is not appearing on the home page of the numerous DPS, and none of the album edits have made any of the trending editorial playlists. Snippets of the album edits have hit social media as the artist trends, and fans rave over the new project.
Tory Lanez also said that his music has been buried during the last two releases as this is not something new with the DSP services. “I’ve stayed cool for the last two projects…BUT THIS IS JUST NOT FAIR,” he asserted.
In the now-deleted post, Tory Lanez thanked fans for their support and for continuing to demand his music but said that fans are not seeing his music and have to search for his name or the album title to see his new music. Some celebrities also commented on his post including legendary producer Timbaland and Lanez’s rumored girlfriend Eliza Reign, who is famous for having a baby with Future and demand $50K a month in child support.
“I want to shout out all my umbrellas all my fans out there for what yall just just did. We No. 1 with the R&B capsule with the R&B charts for Itunes Music, we No. 1 on the charts for Apple Music…what yall did right now what people don’t understand my music right now the platforms got it in a way when you look at the home page of these platforms you can’t even find it nowhere. It’s as if I didn’t drop nothing…so in order for people to actually to have my music chart they gotta go search for it, look for my name and all kinda stuff and it’s crazy because they [fans] brought it to number one….my music is on the top charts which means there’s a demand for my music. If there’s a demand for my music it’s yall job to curate that music to the people who demand it.”
Beenie Man released the lead single off his upcoming album Simma.
After teasing the new collaboration with Popcaan and Dre Island more than a month ago, Beenie Man has finally released the visuals for “Fun In The Sun.” The dancehall veteran first previewed the music video directed by Cinema Gods at the end of January after he announced that his new album Simma will be available this spring.
In the music video, Popcaan, Dre Island, and Beenie Man perform on the grounds of a lofty estate in St. Ann, Jamaica. Beenie’s daughter Desha Ravers also makes a brief cameo where she performs some simple dance movements in the courtyard. “Fun In The Sun” is the call to abandon violence and come together as one, taking a page from the book of a legend like Bob Marley. Dre Island’s signature raspy sound carries the uplifting chorus with ease as he encourages unity.
“Brothers and fathers, daughters and sons / Working all day long till the sun comes down / I say Doc we goin party, everybody have fun / We don’t need no gun just fun in the sun / That’s why we must… must live as one / Divided we fall while together we’re strong,” Dre Island croons in the chorus.
Beenie Man delivers a particularly impressive verse on this the first track from Simma. For his part, the Doctor speaks to how far dancehall could go if it was less divisive and how unison can aid tremendously on a community level as well.
“But if we all work together we can help each other / A nuh dem alone we fi tell ‘black lives matter’ / We nuh racist mi nuh believe inna colour / A di hard work yuh perform mi admire / Every rich ghetto yute find yuh ghetto yuh be a pillar / Yesterday you was a killer but today you is a villa / Help di ghetto yute dem fi climb up the ladder / Dem cuss the politicians still nah get a dollar,” Beenie deejays on the track.
“A Davis, Sutherland and Island deh ya / A nuh circumstance a love between breda / If dem artist ya coulda follow / Everywhere we pull up all a we fans dem gather / Paparazzi take a picture put it up inna d maga / Dem nuh want that a straight pasa pasa.”
The video wraps up with a visual tribute to the dancehall star’s late mother, who passed away in 2020. “In Loving Memory Of My Mother Lilieth Lorrine Sewell 1946-2020,” the screen reads.
Check out the visuals for “Fun In The Sun,” and look out for Beenie Man’s 19th studio album Simma this spring.
Let’s make a cold idea warm in the back of the basement Let’s make a cold idea form in the back of our head I spent a lot of days, lot of days with you By now we got a taste of what a doublemind can do
We wait We don’t give up We wait We don’t give up
Light it up, light it up to burn it down Temporary’s not my style I draw them in and spit them out Do what I’ve always done, always done with you By now we got a taste of what a doublemind can do
We wait We don’t give up We wait We don’t give up
Money, we don’t need it Money’s raining down upon us Oh the playing gets steady Instead of pining for a moment of rest
So we wait We don’t give up We wait We don’t give up
I’ve never waited on a quarterless drought I’ve never waited for the numbers to be randomly drawn But I remember selling out But I had to make a fun living somehow
I make a living for now Make a living for now Make a living somehow
Money, we don’t need it For the money’s raining down The playing gets steady Instead of pining for a moment of rest
The money, we don’t need it The money’s raining down up on us The playing gets steady Instead of pining for a moment of rest
So we wait We don’t give up We wait We don’t give up We wait

My hair grows in a fashion, makes my mother think I’m taking drugs
I can only say she’s mostly wrong
And I’m not quite sure how to cope with my current situation
In this place that I keep saying I belong
And I do not think I’ll be
Discussed elegantly
Won’t you please tell me
How does it feel to be charmed, worry free as can be
Throw the world down on their knees kissing your rings
Have it all handed to you, watch it all go kabloo
Yes I’d feel stupid too, Aesop’s job is done
Brilliance comes and brilliance goes but you’re the only one who knows
‘Cause nothing draws them in like sympathy
And as for all the broken ones who make their ways with poison tongues
The pillow they sleep on is misery
But you will not see me
Being steered to a tree
In this land of the free
How does it feel to be charmed, worry free as can be
Throw the world down on their knees kissing your rings
Have it all handed to you, watch it all go kabloo
Yes I’d feel stupid too, Aesop’s job is done
And I do not think I’ll be
Discussed elegantly
Won’t you please tell me
How does it feel to be charmed, worry free as can be
Throw the world down on their knees kissing your rings
Have it all handed to you, watch it all go kabloo
Yes I’d feel stupid too, Aesop’s job is done
When I went shopping, never wanted toys
Things like that were for little boys
My momma bought me clothes from my favorite store
Pray, mum……….
I wanna wanna be a male model!
I wanna wanna be a male model!
I wanna wanna be a model!
A model!
I read women’s magazines for fashion scenes
I could tell ya all the prices for pounds and pents
You’re minds made up, you can afford to buy new clothes
You’re never going to change, just say “I’ll take gold!”
I wanna wanna be a male model!
I wanna wanna be a male model!
I wanna wanna be a model!
A model!
I’m afraid I acquire things second hand
or clothes that must belong to another man
Trousers up and down and say “Here’s your gold”
Anything cheap I don’t want to know!
I wanna wanna be a male model!
I wanna wanna be a male model!
I wanna wanna be a model!
A model!
I wanna wanna be a male model!
I wanna wanna be a male model!
I wanna wanna be a model!
A model!
See lonely shadows – silver needles
Abandoned in the evening war
Lost children of the night – come catch the candle bright
I hear a hollow sound – falling to the ground – she’s lost before she’s found
Sad broken angels takin’ rainbows
Out on the street for all to see
If we are the chosen few – what ever happened to
All those things we knew, if this is being free –
I’d rather search for me
Chorus
You nearly did, you nearly did, you nearly did
You nearly did me in, you nearly did me in
And I need some place to hide – my weary anger down
Out on some misty distant highway
Feel like I though a million miles
Is my search nearly done – I think I see someone
I get the urge to run on blindly through the rain,
And I fool myself again
Chorus
What ever happened to dignity
What ever happened to integrity
What ever happened to honesty
Well I’ll tell you something baby – I feel the pain just like the sea
Now I thought we’d come alive and
Stop all this drunken driving
You were the one who wanted to storm those gates
and kill those prophets that couldn’t relate
But still you’re the one who wanted to save your soul
With all your bullshit rock and roll
But now she hides her eyes
burns her house and hopes she dies
Chorus:
Never gettin’ my hands dirty
Uh-huh, uh-huh
It’s not just for myself, not just all for self, no
I figured we’d move it on up, move it on up, yeah
Not just for myself, not just all for self, no
Now he put your hand in mine
Come daddy come show me a sign
Now what I do I do for youths
The white and the black and the browns and the blues
Now promise comes in two foot waves
The moving earth and diggin’ the graves
Now he tried to justify it
But he’ll feel better once he tries it
Rapper Nas says while the present artists are churning out music, it isn’t precisely impressionable stuff that makes him come for a second listen.
While speaking to the Financial Times about his business ventures, he also spoke about the present era of rappers. According to Nas, while there are many rappers, their music has not accomplished the feat of “keeping him up at night,” as he reflects on the lyrics.
“I appreciate what’s out there, but there’s no one keeping me up at night. I hear a new rap record and think it’s great, but I don’t listen to it the next week.” He did concede, though, that he was caught by the late Pop Smoke’s rhyming style and was even open to trying out Pop Smoke’s Drill Beat style.
“We were happy to see that young king come up. He was a breath of fresh air. The drill movement in London, Chicago and New York is really exciting.”
Pop Smoke was killed in 2020 after gunmen broke into a house he was renting in Los Angeles and shot him several times. He was only 20 years old. Since his death, the rapper has continued to enjoy chart success with his album “Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon” earning a 17th week at the No. 1 place atop the R&B/ Hip-Hop Albums. No other rapper has achieved this since 1990.
Meanwhile, Nas just recently released his 2020 King’s Disease album nominated in the Best Rap Album category for the 2021 Grammy Awards. His comeback after 30 years in the business is remarkable with the Grammy nomination, and if he wins, that would also be his first Grammy.
His music has been rated by fans, both young and old, who refer to it as a classic masterpiece and other such adjectives. However, according to Nas, making good music requires major effort and dedication.
“The business is hard and not many artists make it. But as long as you keep your soul, so long as you are happy knowing you contributed something positive to the atmosphere, then you can’t lose. No one gets out unscathed, you know. There’s going to be some turbulence, but you’re here to make music, change lives and help people,” he said.
[Verse 1]
Drive through the streets with your eyes closed
Trip on a stick where the wind blows
So out of reach but it looks close
Don’t assume what you don’t know
[Verse 2]
You act real hot but you’re still cold
You wanna be rich with a Lambo
So out of reach but it looks so close
Red light but you still go
[Pre-Chorus]
You can walk around the entire world
But you still end up with what you started with first
Spit out money and you offer out lures
Get the girl but it wasn’t the cure
[Chorus]
The television told you if you got up and went
Within 5/6 months you’d be playing Japan
Now you’re in a new world, you don’t havе a friend
Don’t assume what you don’t know
[Post-Chorus]
Know-ow-ow, oh-oh
What you don’t know-ow-ow, oh-oh
[Verse 3]
So you told your ma that you’re gonna be free
You’re gonna be a nеw branch on the Hollywood tree
You leave with a couplе hundred, maybe three
And your high school degree
[Verse 4]
Finally you get an opportunity
They say listen close and only to me
Just sign off your name and creativity
Don’t ya don’t ya wanna be a star?
[Pre-Chorus]
You can walk around the entire world
But you still end up with what you started with first
Spit out money and you offer out lures
Get the girl but it wasn’t the cure
[Chorus]
The television told you if you got up and went
Within 5/6 months you’d be playing Japan
Now you’re in a new world, you don’t havе a friend
Don’t assume what you don’t know
[Post-Chorus]
Know-ow-ow, oh-oh
What you don’t know-ow-ow, oh-oh
[Pre-Chorus]
You can walk around the entire world
But you still end up with what you started with first
Spit out money and you offer out lures
Get the girl but it wasn’t the cure
[Chorus]
The television told you if you got up and went
Within 5/6 months you’d be playing Japan
Now you’re in a new world, you don’t havе a friend
Don’t assume what you don’t know
[Verse 1]
You smile
Your lips beguile
You look impeccable
Cutting through the room like a knife
Sharpened leather fastened tight
Oh so insatiable
[Verse 2]
Such a sight
An apparition holding tight
Never to shy from the scene
Splash of sound
Just a bellow bouncing ’round
There is a quiet to your scream
[Pre-Chorus]
They fall, you rise
It’s here, your time
[Chorus]
The golden restless age
And time won’t turn the page
You’re only passing through a form of you
I look in your eyes and therе’s a rage
And time won’t turn the pagе
It hits you headlong to go it alone
[Verse 3]
See the eyes how they shimmer
And how they shine
It’s only personal
I watch you fall, at breakneck speed
Lie in wait
Aching to feel it all
[Pre-Chorus]
The cause – effect
The line is set
[Chorus]
The golden restless age
And time won’t turn the page
You’re only passing through a form of you
I look in your eyes and there’s a rage
And time won’t turn the page
It hits you headlong to go it alone
[Pre-Chorus]
They fall, you rise
It’s here, your time
[Chorus]
The golden restless age
And time won’t turn the page
You’re only passing through a form of you
I look in your eyes and there’s a rage
And time won’t turn the page
It hits you headlong to go it alone
[Verse 1]
You keep coming and going
Keep me on my toes
But don’t rush out the door so soon, so soon
It’s so late in the morning
Maybe sleep till the evening
No overachieving on you, with you
[Pre-Chorus]
Already know how it goes
Already know how it goes
Once you’ve taken off your clothes
There’s no way that you go
When I already know (Already know)
We both already know (We both already know)
It’s no way that you’re leaving, leaving alone
[Chorus]
‘Cause you’re famous for the way
That you’re ten minutes late
Leave your lights on all night and sleep in all day
You’re famous for thе way that
So famous for the way that
So don’t you ever changе
Always pay for a drink
Then twenty minutes later
See you pour it down the sink
No, don’t have to explain that
You’re famous for the way that
[Verse 2]
You keep fussing and moaning
But you’re better admitting
Got no ammunition, do you? Do you?
Baby I don’t even want you (Don’t even want you)
To try to be better
Don’t get any faster, don’t you
Woah
[Pre-Chorus]
Already know how it goes (Know how it goes)
Already know how it goes (Know how it goes)
Once you’ve taken off your clothes
There’s no way that you go
When I already know (Already know)
We both already know (We both already know)
It’s no way that you’re leaving, leaving alone
[Chorus]
‘Cause you’re famous for the way
That you’re ten minutes late
Leave your lights on all night and sleep in all day
You’re famous for the way that
So famous for the way that
So don’t you ever change
Always pay for a drink
Then twenty minutes later
See you pour it down the sink
No, don’t have to explain that (Don’t have to explain that)
You’re famous for the way that (Famous for the way)
[Bridge]
So, so, so, so, so, so
So famous for the way that (Famous for the way that)
No, I don’t have to explain that (I don’t have to explain that)
So, so, so, so, so, so
So famous for the way that
No, don’t have to explain that (I don’t have to explain that)
[Chorus]
‘Cause you’re famous for the way
That you’re ten minutes late
Leave your lights on all night and sleep in all day
You’re famous for the way that (Famous for the way)
So famous for the way that
So don’t you ever change
Always pay for a drink
Then twenty minutes later
See you pour it down the sink
No, don’t have to explain that (I don’t have to explain that)
You’re famous for the way that
[Verse 1]
Unusual
We got mutual friends
Is it mutual if I kiss your lips?
If I’m truthful
Then it all depends on your feelings
Crucial, how I’m leanin’ in
‘Cause I’m used to just divin’ in
I could lose you
That’s the consequence of my feelings
[Pre-Chorus]
Is there a spark for us
Or is it just purely platonic?
Is this a story arc?
‘Cause if it are, it’d be iconic
I wasn’t gonna ask
Afraid of asking you to dance
(But here I am)
[Chorus]
Falling for a friend
Falling for a friend, ooh
Baby, don’t pretend
That you don’t feel it too
I know you do
[Verse 2]
I wonder
If we cross the line, go under
Love is close the blind
Will be lovers or cut the ties forever?
[Pre-Chorus]
Is there a spark for us
Or is it just purely platonic?
Is this a story arc?
‘Cause if it are, it’d be iconic
I wasn’t gonna ask
Afraid of asking you to dance
(But here I am)
[Chorus]
Falling for a friend
Falling for a friend, ooh
Baby, don’t pretend
That you don’t feel it too
I know you do
Oh, baby, here I am
I’m falling for a friend, ooh
Come on, don’t pretend (Don’t pretend that)
That you don’t feel it too
I know you do
[Bridge]
Is there a spark for us
Or is it just purely platonic?
Is this a story arc?
‘Cause if it are, it’d be iconic
I’ve been pacin’ around
Waiting it out
For just one chance
(So here I am)
[Chorus]
Falling for a friend
Falling for a friend, ooh
Baby, don’t pretend
That you don’t feel it too
I know you do
Oh, baby, here I am
I’m falling for a friend, ooh
Come on, don’t pretend (Don’t pretend that)
That you don’t feel it too
I know you do
[Intro]
I need love, uh-uh-uh
I need love, uh-uh-uh
[Verse 1]
Thought that I found love before
Maybe I was wrong
Guess I’ve never known you
Oh, I can’t be the only one
That’s been holdin’ on
I just need the one to
[Pre-Chorus]
Stay with me
Won’tcha say it’s me?
Everyday kills me
Told myself that I don’t, but I do
[Chorus]
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love, ooh ooh
Like an addict needs a drug
Like a hunter needs the blood
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love, ooh ooh
Like the poison needs the pill
Like a body needs to feel
I need love
[Verse 2]
I tried to find all the parts
Of my broken heart
But I can’t without you
Can we go right back to the start
If I let down my guard
Maybe you’rе the one to
[Pre-Chorus]
Stay with me
Won’tcha say it’s mе
Everyday it kills me
Told myself that I don’t, but I do
[Chorus]
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love, ooh ooh
Like an addict needs a drug
Like a hunter needs the blood
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love, ooh ooh
Like the poison needs the pill
Like a body needs to feel
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love
[Bridge]
I been waiting for you in the dark
Love me back together when I fall apart
Feel another rhythm in my heart
Love me back together when I fall apart
I been waiting for you in the dark
Love me back together when I fall apart
Feel another rhythm in my heart
Love me back together when I fall apart
[Chorus]
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love, ooh ooh
Like the poison needs the pill
Like a body needs to feel
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love, ooh ooh
Like the poison needs the pill
Like a body needs to feel
I need love, ooh ooh
I need love
[Verse 1]
I was focused on me
My own energy
Trying to negotiate the conflict in myself
It was all going fine
‘Til you changed my mind
Someone call a lifeboat
‘Cause I’m drowning in your vibe
[Pre-Chorus]
I’m melting into you like water
Sleeping without you is getting harder
Melting in like water
Oh my god, oh god, somebody stop her
[Chorus]
Holy smokes
I’m not the poster girl of feelings, but with you I can’t stop
Holy smokes
I want the sweet organic healing on the tip of my tongue
[Verse 2]
All of our friends
Don’t want this to end
I should’ve known better than bringing you around
Feeling the sparks
As you light up the room
I don’t wanna come down off you too soon
[Pre-Chorus]
I’m changing colors just like autumn
Sleeping without you is getting harder
Melting in like water
Oh my god, my god, somebody stop her
[Chorus]
Holy smokes
I’m not the poster girl of feelings, but with you I can’t stop
Holy smokes
I want the sweet organic healing on the tip of my tongue
Do-do, do-do-ayy, this isn’t like me
Do-do, do-do-ayy, you got me saying
Holy smokes
I’m not the poster girl of feelings but with you I can’t stop
[Bridge]
Do-do, do-do-ayy, this isn’t like me
Do-do, do-do-ayy, you got me saying
Melting in like water
Oh my god, my god, somebody stop her
[Chorus]
Holy smokes
I’m not the poster girl of feelings but with you I can’t stop
Holy smokes
I want the sweet organic healing on the tip of my tongue (I want)
Do-do, do-do-ayy, this isn’t like me (Yeah)
Do-do, do-do-ayy, you got me saying
Holy smokes (Ooh)
I’m not the poster girl of feelings but with you I can’t stop
I can’t stop
