The dream is still alive as Uganda Cranes striker Fahad Aziz Bayo returned to haunt Amavubi once again with a precious first-half goal to hand Uganda Cranes a 1-0 win over Rwanda in Group E’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers’ encounter played at St Mary’s Stadium yesterday.
The lone goal which came on 22 minutes, turned as the winner as Uganda Cranes completed the double over neighbors Rwanda which takes them to second in their group after.
This comes after the same striker also did the same damage in Kigali on Thursday after scoring a similar goal in the first half as Cranes beat Rwanda 1-0 to hand Milutin Sredojević Michu his first win as head coach of Uganda Cranes.
The defeat effectively ended Rwanda’s 2022 World Cup dream as they now trail Group E table leaders Mali with nine points. Only group winners proceed to the final qualifying round.
Airtel Uganda the official sponsors of the Uganda Cranes started a campaign that ran from Thursday dubbed ‘Cranes Paka Qater’ where Ugandans are urged to show them their support and best wishes to the team in a special product called the Cranes offer which is open up to all Airtel customers each time the Uganda Cranes have a game.
The results keeps Uganda in second place on the log with 8 points just 2 points adrift log leaders Mali who extended their lead at the top after beating Kenya 1-0 at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on the same day while Kenya remains on two points and Rwanda is on a single point.
Uganda Cranes return to action next month at home to rivals Kenya before the away trip to Morocco to face Mali in the final group E duel.
Both teams return to action on Thursday, November 11, 2021 when Uganda hosts Kenya at St Mary’s stadium in their next campaign, Rwanda meanwhile will host Mali at Nyamirambo Regional Stadium.
