Senegalese-American RnB singer Aliaune Damala Badara Akon returned to Uganda for his second visit during President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony on 12th May 20121.
The singer was one of the people that were invited by State House to the ceremony that took place at Kololo Independence grounds
Akon was in Uganda last month in his search for investment opportunities. According to the office of the Presidential advisor on diaspora issues, Ambassador Hajj Abbey Walusimbi, Akon came back to Uganda because of his desire to invest here.
He was escorted by his wife Rozina Negusei and other members of his team.
During his first visit, the government promised to help him secure land in central Uganda where he will build a city named “Akon”
Akon City Uganda will employ a smart city approach, and is expected to feature futuristic shopping malls, stadia and recreational facilities like its sister city (one he is set to build in is country Senegal) 3,000 miles away.
According to the Akon City website, the project seeks to address the need for vibrant new community development, with a vision to create a business district, residential districts, a high-rise education district, a healthcare district, a technology district, a media district, an entertainment district, and sport facilities with a recreational enclave for the surrounding area to address the market need for the development in Senegal.
Akon City describes itself as a “futuristic development to become the beacon of innovation and human development by providing the best education solution to lead the economy of the country creating the most revolutionary industry.
