Young female Hip hop sensation Stone Age UG of the ‘Kyekimu’ fame burst onto the music scene last year and has since become an instant household name in the Hip hot and Lugaflow world.
The 10-year old whose real name is Kirabo Tyra is a primary six pupil at Kansanga Primary School and started her music career seriously in August 2019.
Last week, she won the Rookie of the Year award at the 5th edition of the MTN UG Hip hop Awards 2021 and spoke to Chano8’s Roy Ruva about her big win and plans for the future. Below is how it went;
Chano8: You must be excited after winning big at the MTN Hip hop Awards. Tell us how does it feel to win the Rookie of the Year Award?
I feel so honoured to see that Ugandans have officially welcomed and accepted me as the best new young female Hip Hop Artist in the entire country. The MTN UG HIP HOP AWARDS are the biggest Hip Hop Awards in Uganda which every Rapper strives to win.
Stone Age UG displays the award she won at the recently held MTN UG Hip hop Awards at MTN Warehouse at the MTN Head Quarters on Jinja Road headquarters.
Chano8: What have you learnt or experience did you get at this particular awards ceremony?
I found out that patience and hard work pays. At the end of the day, you are rewarded for your hard work.
Secondly, I also learnt that it’s very important to always interact with your fan base because, at the end of the day, their support means a lot to your success.
I also realized that talent can take you places and provide more opportunities in addition to education.
Chano8: You have won several awards in the recent past how does this rank?
True, last year I won some awards and got several other nominations both local and international. By then, I was ranked number 5 in the Best Female Rappers of all times in Uganda. The list went as follows Lady Slyke, MC Yalla, Keko, Milka and Stone Age.
This year, I’ve been ranked number two as MC Yallah took first place. And who knows, by the end of this year, I may take up the first position and so it is the biggest for me.

Chano8: What did winning the award come with? Have you gotten opportunities for collaborations gotten recording deals?
Well, MTN promised to include all my songs as Caller Tunes before the year ends. I also met many TV and Radio personalities plus journalists who promised to invite me for interviews.
I met many big hip hop Artists like Babaluku, Lyrical G, Maxi Mayne, Flex D’Paper, St NellySade, and The Mith who promised me collabos.
Of course I’ve already done some collabos with big names like GNL, Navio and Lady Slyke. It’s a blessing.

Chano8: How did your project with the young South African DJ Arch Junior go? Or it’s still on hold?
The collabo with DJ Arch was already recorded. They are still planning on how to make the video but away from that, I also have another collabo with Canadian Pop Star Alexa to be released towards the end of the year.
Chano8: That’s interesting. So, what is your next plan after winning this award and your message to fans?
My next plan is to continue working on my Album titled THE RISE OF STONE AGE which was interrupted by the Covid-19. My Mentor and CEO Senior Sula says we have some pending work to finish this year ends before anything else.
My fans should just keep their ear to the ground. With their support, I Am set to represent Uganda at international levels.
