The first batch of athletes to represent Uganda at the the Tokyo Olympics games were flagged off by Honourable Hamson Denis Obua the Minister of State for Education and Sport at Lugogo, Kampala
The group comprised of five athletes included three boxers, one Swimmer and a weight lifter.
The boxers under their team The Bombers are Shadir Musa Bwogi, David Ssemujju and Catherine Nanziri. Julius Ssekitoleko is the weight lifter and the swimmer is Ambala Atuhaire.
They will be led by the Assistant General Secretary at National Council of sports David Katende plus Hakim Ssempereza (Weight lifting coach), Meddie Mulandi and Patrick Lihanda (boxing coaches).
This is the first batch of the 27 athletes expected to represent Uganda at the Olympics which will be staged between Friday 23rd July and to Sunday 8th, August 2021.
The group which left for Japan on Friday the 18th of June is expected to arrive on Saturday the 19th and they will camp in Izumisano, Japan for a pre-Olympic games training.
Obua called upon the athletes to go and lift Uganda’s flag high at the games by putting up good performances.
The Tokyo Olympics were supposed to take place last year but with the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the games were postponed for a period of one year.
