Russia is not interested in a direct clash with the United States and NATO countries, said Ivan Nechaev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Our Armed Forces are equipped with modern and high-precision conventional (non-nuclear. — RBC) weapons, which allow us to fully implement the goals and tasks set by the President of Russia for the purposes of the NMD in Ukraine. Russia, as a nuclear power, will continue to act as responsibly as possible, a direct clash with the United States and NATO is not in our interests, — he said.
Nechaev stressed that “Russia has never saber-rattled, let alone nuclear.” At the same time, according to him, due to the supply of the “regime in Kyiv” clashes between Russia and the forces of the collective West are quite real.
Russia announced the start of a military special operation in Ukraine on the morning of February 24th. President Vladimir Putin called its goals the denazization and demilitarization of the neighboring country, as well as the protection of the population of Donbass from “genocide”; from Kyiv. Ukraine, in response, severed diplomatic relations with Moscow and declared martial law.
Against the backdrop of a special operation, the heads of state— members of the North Atlantic Alliance at the end of June adopted a new NATO strategic concept, in which Russia is called the most significant and direct threat to the security of the bloc. At the same time, the document notes that the alliance does not seek confrontation and does not pose a threat to Russia, and is also ready to keep channels of communication with Moscow open, despite the fact that it no longer considers it a partner.
This is not the first time the Russian leadership has accused NATO of an aggressive policy towards Moscow. In particular, the first deputy head of the presidential administration, Sergei Kiriyenko, said that the bloc was conducting a “hot military operation”; against Russia on the territory of Ukraine. Putin called the expansion of NATO to the East one of the reasons for holding the NWO in Ukraine.
