USA, Poland, Germany, France, Estonia do not recognize referendums on joining the republics of Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to Russia
The United States will never acknowledge the attempt annex parts of Ukrainian territories to Russia, said National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
Holding referendums on joining Russia in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, as well as in the territories controlled by Moscow in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions “will not give it additional advantages at the negotiating table,” Sullivan said. “These referendums are an insult to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he pointed out (quote from Reuters).
The assistant to the US president added that later, American leader Joe Biden, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, would call on the world community to resist Russia's actions in Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke in a similar vein, also emphasizing that the FRG does not recognize “fictitious referendums”, and their holding does not comply with international law and agreements. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on his Twitter expressed confidence that if the referendums take place, this will lead to an escalation of hostilities.
French President Emmanuel Macron is confident that the international community will not recognize referendums. The vote will have no legal consequences, he said, calling the whole process a “parody.” “If the idea of a referendum in the Donbass weren’t so tragic, it would be funny,” — Macron believes.
Polish President Andrzej Duda, in turn, said that voting in these territories “costs nothing”; (quote from Reuters), and Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas also indicated that Tallinn does not recognize its results. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for peace between Moscow and Kyiv “on the basis of territorial integrity and taking into account the independence of Ukraine.”

“I would say that the opinion of Duda and other European talkers on the issue of referendums is worth nothing. That's exactly it, — Andrey Klishas, chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, commented on these statements.
Referendums in the republics of Donbass and Russian-controlled parts of Kherson and Zaporozhye regions should be held from 23 to 27 September. The Russian State Duma has already declared its readiness to support the leaders of these regions. Ukraine promises to return the lost territories and insists that in the event of a vote, there will be no more opportunities for dialogue with Moscow.
