In the words of the man behind the Tugende Mukikade (Back to the roots) concept Patrick Kalungi, this year’s edition is going to be bigger and bolder after a 2-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 outbreak that ravaged the world in 2020 and 2021.
Kalungi who had come up with the concept aimed at celebrating legendary artistes who dominated the Ugandan music industry in the early 1970’s, 1980s, 90s and early 2000 and bring back the sweet memories their music had engraved into our hearts.
To him it was a way of recognizing these ‘living legends’ for all the services to the industry and giving them a platform to shine because most times they are forgotten especially in the fast-paced music industry today.
However, after three editions in which the event concept was picking up fast, Covid struck and his plan was put on hold that took him back together with partners like MTN Uganda, back to the drawing board.
Kalungi(L) Poses for a group photo with some of the artistes and sponsors during the launch of season 4.
And after thorough planning that involved consultations he came up with a new lineup of artistes that has a mix of genres and styles.
With everything set, the highly anticipated event will feature a star-studded lineup of artistes like Chance Nalubega, Eddie Yawe, Kabuye Semboga, Sweet Kid, Adam Mutyaba aka Ziggy Dee, Betty Mpologoma, Lady Mariam aka Tindatine, Abdu Mulasi and Romeo Akiiki among others.
“The oldies music lovers should expect a fully packed live band performance from Uganda’s best Legends, an event that will trigger all the old souls, both in young bodies and their rightful bodies’’ said Mr Kalungi.
Veteran radio personality and events Mc Rasta Rob MC will be host at the event that is scheduled for 3rd December at Kampala Serena Hotel starting at 4pm.
